Following is a letter I wrote to Rob Hutton. I urge you to write or call your state assemblyman and state senator Leah Vukmir to share your thoughts about the Foxconn "deal." (Contact information)
Mr. Hutton,
I am writing to express my deep misgivings about the Foxconn “deal” being mooted in the Assembly. This seems like a lousy deal for Wisconsin.
I am particularly concerned by the finding of the Legislative Fiscal Bureau that the proposed investment by the state would not pay off until 2043. It appears to me that this payoff projection is based on rosy assumptions about the number of jobs created and sustained.
I don’t believe this proposal is based on sound principles, and indeed would be disastrous if applied to all investment in job creation in the state. I’d be much more supportive of investment in Wisconsin infrastructure and education that would create the conditions for a much broader and healthier job environment. This seems to be more sensible than government “picking winners and losers,” as the saying goes.
I urge you to oppose a hasty decision that might result in a few politicians' short term political gain at the expense of taxpayers and future generations of Wisconsinites.
Thank you.
