Call our state legislators to tell them you're in favor of the Health Care Consumer Protection Package, which would prohibit lifetime limits and prevent discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, among other things.
Call your state assembly rep (Dale Kooyenga, 608-266-9180, or Rob Hutton, 608-267-9836), and your state senator (Leah Vukmir, 608-266-2512).
The Health Care Protection Package includes:
- LRB 1882/LRB 1151: Prohibiting lifetime and annual limits under health insurance policies and plans.
- LRB 1881/LRB 1150: Prohibiting preexisting condition exclusion and rate setting based on preexisting conditions.
- LRB 1884/LRB 1199: Requiring coverage and prohibiting cost sharing for preventive services under health insurance policies and plans
- LRB 3444/LRB 2107: Coverage of certain essential health benefits
- LRB 2988/LRB 3484: Maintaining access to reimbursements to family planning providers in the Medical Assistance Program
Wisconsin Legislative Democrats: Healthcare Protection Package
- LRB 1882/LRB 1151: Prohibiting Lifetime and annual limits under health insurance policies and plans. When someone gets sick, there is no reason they should face financial ruin simply because of an arbitrary limit on the amount of their insurance benefits. This bill would prohibit the practice of insurance companies imposing annual or lifetime limits on coverage that harmed too many families.
- LRB 1881/LRB 1150: Prohibiting preexisting condition exclusion and rate setting based on preexisting conditions. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, at least 27% of Wisconsin adults between the ages of 18 and 65 have a preexisting condition. That is over 852,000 people right here in Wisconsin. Before the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies could have denied, and regularly did deny, them coverage. This bill is about making sure that here in Wisconsin, no matter what happens, nobody can be denied access to or charged more for health insurance through absolutely no fault of their own.
- LRB 1884/LRB 1199: Requiring coverage and prohibiting cost sharing for preventive services under health insurance policies and plans Nobody should have to delay or avoid a visit to the doctor because the cost is too much. In fact, research has shown that preventive services can save lives by helping doctors and patients identify illnesses early, manage them more effectively, and treat them before they develop into conditions that cause serious health concerns. Under this bill, health insurance plans would be required to cover various preventive health services at no cost to the patient.
- LRB 3444/LRB 2107: Coverage of certain essential health benefits There are certain health care services that are essential to the health and well-being of our communities. The Trump/Ryan plan has threatened the economic security of the American people, who now will no longer have access to the services they had gained access to under the Affordable Care Act. Health insurance coverage of mental health and substance abuse counseling, so important in this opiate crisis, is in jeopardy. The House GOP plan ELIMINATES this and lets states once again decide what to cover. This bill requires coverage of the ten essential health benefits of the Affordable Care Act.
- LRB 2988/LRB 3484: Maintaining access to reimbursements to family planning providers in the Medical Assistance Program This bill would ensure that family planning providers are covered via state reimbursement if they have been defunded at the federal level. Family planning clinics in Wisconsin have already been jeopardized by recent legislative sessions. Clinics all across the state are under threat of closure. Thousands of families in Wisconsin already lack access to public health services, particularly in rural Wisconsin. This bill would protect the people of Wisconsin who rely on family planning clinics for basic health care.
