2020: Our Work Starts Now!

On Nov. 10, 2016, we were asking ourselves, "How did this happen."

Since then, our shock has pretty much turned to horror as we watched a half-mad con man try to completely warp our venerated system of government to his own venal interests. The Grifter-in-Chief has been aided and abetted by a GOP that has turned so completely from the party of Lincoln and even Eisenhower  as to become something resembling the wealthy elite who enabled the rise of German fascism in the 1930s. (I wish this was hyperbole!)

So, what do we do now?

Many of us believe that the most powerful thing we can do is take to the streets -- to talk to voters at their doors, asking about their concerns, their motivations, planting the seeds that will grow into a grassroots powerhouse that will reclaim our nation.

The work is beginning, with the  Organizing Corps 2020, which has begun the vital voter-to-voter discussions we need to secure victory over Trump and his GOP enablers. The Corps will recruit and train campaign workers to do the kind of political field work that elected Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. It will also collect the voter information that is vital to a successful campaign, visiting voters to learn about the issues that motivate them.

The Corps is not working for  any particular candidate, but is dedicated to electing the Democratic nominee, no matter who she or he is.

You can participate in this movement, beginning with a canvass this Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m. Meet Wauwatosa's Organizing Corps field organizer Lena Jensen at her home,  6426 Upper Parkway North in Wauwatosa.

The goal of the canvass is "Bridge building in Tosa!," Lena says. "We are here to ask and listen to voters about the issues that matter most to them."

The road to victory in 2020 will be a long one, but it will be worth every step we take.

If you can make it, contact Lena at [email protected].

Hope to see you Saturday.
